Welcome

The Riverside County Department of Public Health has put together this collection of resources to help people learn more about local community farming efforts.

You can learn how to grow your own food, contact people who share a passion for farming and fresh food, or find locally grown produce for your family.

  6. We have completed the training of 16 County Champions in the Coachella Valley to date. The trainings took place in February at Thousand Palms Child Care Center. The next scheduled training is in La Quinta with the Desert YMCA. This will be held on March 23 and March 30, Tuesdays, from 12:30 to 2:30pm. We are working to schedule County Champions Train the Trainer programs county wide. Preventing obesity is vital as is the access to healthy local produce. As the phrase goes, we are what we eat, hence we promote gardening and local farmers markets as just one piece of the solution to the problem of obesity.

  7. To know how many fruits and vegetables you should eat daily, use the USDA food guide pyramid at www.mypyramid.gov. From the home page, go to "My pyramid plan", enter your personal data for age, height, weight, etc. It will tell you how many servings you should consume personally. It is a really great website to explore. Have fun!
